Ki-Aikido was established in 1974 by
Koichi Tohei.
Ki-Aikido has been influenced by, among other, Zen-Buddhism, Taoism,
Shintoism and Yoga. In 1978 Ki-Aikido was introduced to Sweden and to
Göteborg in 1989. In Sweden there are around ten Ki-Aikido clubs, in Europe
maybe around a hundred and in the world several hundred. There are regular local and
international Ki-Aikido camps in which students have opportunity to meet
Ki-Aikido practitioners from different places and nations.
The "real" name of Ki-Aikido is Shin-Shin Toitsu Aikido which is Japanese
for Aikido with mind and body unified/coordinated. Ki-Aikido was developed
from Aikido which was created from mainly different jujutsu- and sword schools
by Morihei Ueshiba (known as O-sensei,
meaning great teacher, among Aikido students) during mainly the 1930's -40's and -50's.
